Today, March 10, is the National Day of Appreciation for Abortion Providers. We have written extensively about abortion rights on the WLP blog. Physicians who provide abortion care often do so under the very real threat of violence against them, the clinic they work in, or even their families. Their numbers are dwindling. Their offices are targeted by anti-choice activists who want to shut down all legal abortion in the United States.
But they are also creating unique ways to increase women’s access to abortion. They are saving women’s lives by providing lifesaving abortion care. They provide this care because women need it in order to be full, equal citizens in our society, and they do it under intense stigma.
One in three women in the United States will have an abortion over the course of her lifetime. Today is a day to recognize and thank abortion providers for the crucial work they do. You can add your name and thank abortion providers here, via the National Abortion Federation.
