New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of pregnant women and their families by signing a pregnancy discrimination bill by Tuesday, January, 21st.
The New Jersey legislature passed this bill — S. 2995 (http://www.njleg.state.nj.us/2012/Bills/S3000/2995_I1.HTM) — unanimously in the state Senate and with overwhelming support in the General Assembly.
If signed by the Governor, the new law will require employers to provide reasonable accommodations to employees for needs related to pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions. Without this law, employers may continue to deny pregnant women the minor job modifications they may need, such a chair in the workplace or access to water. Without these reasonable accommodations, women are often forced to leave their jobs.
