The Women’s Law Project has been chosen as a partner in the Abortion Rights Project, a state-focused project led by the National Women’s Law Center.

The Abortion Rights Project represents a partnership between the national organization and on-the-ground state-based organizations defending and expanding abortion access.

“The unprecedented attack on access to abortion calls for an unprecedented response – that’s why the National Women’s Law Center is launching the Abortion Rights Project. We’re proud to support the work of the Women’s Law Project, which for years has been a leader in ensuring access to abortion in Pennsylvania and a national model for how legal advocates can protect and expand the right to abortion,” says Heather Shumaker, Senior Counsel at National Women’s Law Center. “We’re thrilled to be a partner with them in this fight.”

In addition to this initial investment in Pennsylvania, Abortion Rights Project will begin its work with groups active in twelve other states that represent the frontlines in the defensive and proactive battles for abortion access across the country: Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, Mississippi, Florida, Arkansas, Maine, Illinois, Louisiana, Ohio, California, and Washington, D.C.

“We are so pleased to add another facet to our working relationship with National Women’s Law Center by collaborating on the Abortion Rights Project,” says WLP Senior Staff Attorney Susan J. Frietsche. “We are strategizing around the clock, and need all the financial and logistical support we can get to push our plans forward. We will not stop until all people have access to comprehensive reproductive health services and our government respects and supports their reproductive decisions.”

The Women’s Law Project is a public interest law center devoted to defending and expanding the rights of women, girls, and LGBTQ people in Pennsylvania and beyond.
