The WLP annual party is only one week from today!
We are thrilled to announce that we will be joined by professor, scholar, and author Dorothy E. Roberts, who will be speaking to us about reproductive justice.
Currently the George A. Weiss University Professor of Law and Sociology and the Raymond Pace and Sadie Tanner Mossell Alexander Professor of Civil Rights at the University of Pennsylvania, Professor Roberts is renowned for her pioneering work in race, gender, and the law.
Roberts has published scores of brilliant and influential essays and articles in her storied career. You may be most familiar with Killing the Black Body: Race, Reproduction, and the Meaning of Liberty, a groundbreaking work that explores the institutional assault on the bodies of Black women in the United States and lays out the complex system in which the U.S. government regulates and coerces the reproductive lives of Black women.
We are looking forward to hearing Roberts has to say about these critical issues at this critical time in history, as well as brief remarks from WLP Executive Director Carol E. Tracy and several special guests.
How to Attend the Virtual Gala & More Details
Our virtual gala will run from 6 PM – 8 PM.
The 45-minute program will be streamed live on YouTube from 6 PM to 6:45 PM.
After the program, we invite you to join us on a virtual happy hour on Zoom to chat and mingle with WLP staff and other guests.
We understand it is an economically challenging time and, in the tradition of our “social justice ticket” sold for previous galas, we don’t want income to prevent anyone from engaging with us on the future of gender justice in Pennsylvania and beyond.
The program and happy hour are both free, but registration is required.
If you are able, contributions are gratefully accepted, as this event supports key work such as litigation and policy advocacy, and there is so much work to do.
Register and/or donate here, and you will receive an email with two links—one to watch the program and one to attend the happy hour—shortly before the event.
Please also RSVP on Facebook,so you can see any relevant updates and invite friends.
Thank you to all our current sponsors! There is still some time to become a sponsor. If you would like to be publicly acknowledged in our pre-event slide show, please make your pledge by Tuesday, November 17th. You can do that here.
Finally, we hope you will be inspired to join us in the masquerade theme, but it is of course optional. See you next Friday!
The Women’s Law Project is a public interest law center in Pennsylvania devoted to advancing and defending the rights of women, girls, and LGBTQ+ people in Pennsylvania and beyond.
