The Washington Post reported last Thursday that seven states filed lawsuits against the outgoing Bush administration to protest the so-called Conscience Clause regulation, issued by the Department of Health and Human Services. We previously blogged about the regulation and the controversy surrounding it. Planned Parenthood Federation of America and the National Family Planning & Reproductive Health Association, represented by the ACLU, filed two separate lawsuits against the rule, also on Thursday.
President Obama has indicated that he would repeal the regulation, and action has been taken in Congress to block the rule, but both of these actions would take months to complete.
