This Saturday, the Anna Crusis choir, a “feminist choir striving for musical excellence and social change, with a special focus on music by, for and about women and their lives” will celebrate their 35th anniversary with performances in Center City Philadelphia.
The “nationally known feminist, lesbian-friendly Philadelphia women’s choir” will sing “in Bulgarian and Spanish as well as English, in harmony and hip-hop style, a cappella and accompanied by piano.” What’s been described as a “wide-ranging program” will be entirely translated into American Sign Language by a frequent Anna Crusis volunteer from New York City.
On Sunday, the group will travel to Germantown for a second performance as well as an award ceremony for “pioneering local businesswomen” who fought against the “white flight” in their Mt. Airy community as the neighborhood became increasingly diverse.
The performance on Saturday will be at 8 p.m. at Arch Street United Methodist Church, at the corner of Broad and Arch Streets. On Sunday, the event will be at 4 p.m. at the Unitarian Society of Germantown, 6511 Lincoln Drive Philadelphia, PA 19119. You can buy tickets for either or both events here.
