INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

WLP’s Internship Opportunities

Women’s Law Project (WLP) is a public interest legal organization working to defend and advance the rights of women, girls, and LGBTQ+ people in Pennsylvania and beyond. Using an intersectional analysis, our work centers the needs of people facing multiple forms of oppression based on sex, gender, race, ethnicity, class, disability, incarceration, pregnancy, and immigration status. We leverage impact litigation, policy advocacy, public education, and direct assistance and representation to dismantle discriminatory laws, policies, and practices, eradicate institutional biases, and advance gender justice.

WLP is a hybrid workplace, and interns are expected to work in-person in either our Pittsburgh or Philadelphia office 2-3 days a week. WLP may be able to support remote internships on a limited basis, where appropriate and reasonable.

Summer Diversity Law Internship

Although WLP does not have funds to subsidize interns generally, WLP offers a summer diversity internship to support a summer intern who is from a diverse background that is underrepresented in the legal community. While this stipend is open to all summer interns, priority will be given to law student interns. For the summer of 2025, the diversity internship stipend is $7,000.

Legal Internships

Legal interns work closely with WLP staff on a variety of gender justice issues, including reproductive rights, abortion access, pregnancy discrimination, equity in athletics, violence against women, LGBTQ equality, and court reform. Interns perform legal research and writing, help draft legal briefs and amicus briefs, communicate with clients and prospective clients, and assist attorneys with judicial bypass cases. Interns also attend weekly staff meetings and other meetings as opportunities arise.

Deadlines

WLP typically begins reviewing applications for summer internship positions after the Thanksgiving holiday, and on a rolling basis thereafter.

WLP reviews applications for interns seeking a position during the academic school year on a rolling basis. Law students who would like to intern with WLP during the school year must coordinate with their law school to receive academic credits for the work they perform as a WLP intern.
